Dukes Drive/River Dee Walk

We have recently made access improvements in and around Dukes Drive Woodland, to create an accessible walking circular route all year round.  The walk goes from The Meadows, along the Riverside to Eccleston, up through Dukes Drive Woodland and finishing back at The Meadows.  The improvements include laying new areas of footpaths, installing new footbridges, and pipe work.  Kissing gates also replaced stiles along the route.  The work was a joint project between the City Council, Cheshire County Council and WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd).  Landfill Tax Credits administered by WREN contributed £21,900 towards the project.

The aim of the work was to improve surfaces and access at key locations only, so to as not to disturb the naturalness of the woodland and riverside.  Recyclable materials were used for footpath surfacing, which was the same material used to improve footpaths around The Meadows last year.

A leaflet with full interpretation of the route will soon be available.  A downloadable leaflet is available on the Health Routes page in our Sport and Activities section.
