Nature Conservation
The Council's Nature Conservation Strategy
Chester has a long
history and a great future. Most of Chester's residents have yet to
be born and the Council has a major role in forming the local
environment they will inherit.
People need change and the Council is determined that future generations will have the opportunity to utilise and enjoy the world's resources to meet their needs.
The Council recognises that nature conservation has an important part to play in achieving its stated goal; "to enhance the quality of life of Chester's residents". Nature Conservation is an excellent measure of the state of the World's resources.
The earth is a small planet and the Council also recognises that what happens in Chester District can affect other parts and peoples of the world. Consequently, although largely concerned with Chester District, this Nature Conservation Strategy also sets out the way the Council will approach its responsibility to help to conserve the worlds wildlife and natural features.
The Strategy reflects and supports the Regional Biodiversity Action Plan. And it is intended to act as a corporate statement building on the Council's Environmental Charter, setting out the Council's aims and policies which define its approach to developing the future environment of Chester District.
The Strategy complements other strategies such as those for Sport and Recreation, Culture, Landscape and Countryside Recreation, Economic Development and studies such as the Future of an Historic City and the Greenspace Assessment. It also acts as supplementary planning guidance to the Chester District Local Plan.
To build on this document, Chester aims to produce its own Local Biodiversity Action Plan for Chester District
