Welcome to the Chester Credit Union.

Do you live or work in the Chester & District area – including Saltney?

If so, you are entitled to join the ever-increasing ranks of those experiencing the benefits the Chester Credit Union provides.

Based on a co-operative savings scheme run and controlled by its members, credit unions were established in the UK back in the early 1960s and since then have gone on to serve members of communities both large and small. One of the largest credit unions in the UK serves over 11,000 members.

The Chester Credit Union was established in 2004 to provide:

• Access to affordable loans
• Individual control over one’s finances
• Security of savings through the Credit Union’s insurance scheme
• Free life insurance protection on savings and loans
• No hidden charges
• The knowledge that savings are being used within the community
• Opportunity to volunteer and learn new skills.

NEW FACES FOR CHESTER CREDIT UNION!

Chester Credit Union went from strength to strength throughout the last year, with our membership now at 623.

David Challen – the recently appointed Chairman of the Chester Credit Union has these kind words about his predessesor. John Boughton.

“John was the inspiration and driving force in setting up the Chester wide credit union. His good humour  carried us along and his judgements were sound. He was the first chair of Chester  Credit Union and its success is a fitting legacy to John’s efforts”.

David, who is also a City Councillor for the past 9 years,  joins us with a wealth of experience of Credit Unions having been past Chair of former Lache, Curzon & Westminster Credit Union. David comments on his main aim in his new appointment “to grow Chester Credit Union so that its services are available to all who need to borrow and save money”.

Furthermore, with the increase in new members and ambitious growth plans for this year, we would like to welcome Vic Lockley who has been recruited into the team as Development Officer.

Vic, who was formally Vice Chairperson for Cheshire Fire Brigades Union Local Negotiating Committee as well as a part time IT teacher with West Cheshire College, has a great involvement with the community and currently acts as Chairperson for a number of community groups including Lache Park Ltd., (Lache Community Group), Neighbourhood Renewal Group, (Partner in local LSP), Lache Park Ltd Community Safety Group, and Lache Community Cybercentre.

Vic comments on what he hopes to achieve for the Chester Credit Union “To heighten the profile of the Chester Credit Union in order to boost membership and increase capacity to make easily repayable loans available. I also aim to set up a Young Savers scheme in conjunction with local schools to instill in young people an increased awareness of monetary matters – Young Savers officially launched in March so if anyone is interested in enrolling their children – please contact us
