Chester City Council has been working hard on a lottery funding bid to rejuvenate the historic Grosvenor Park and its surroundings.

In 2006, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) awarded Chester City Council £50,000 to prepare a "stage 1" funding application under the national Parks for People programme. At the end of March, the council submitted its bid, which is seeking £3 million as part of a £5 million project to breathe new life into one of Chester’s most popular open spaces.
The council has developed proposals for Grosvenor Park, the Groves and St. John’s, which include restoring historical features, creating new facilities and offering opportunities for training and community participation.
The application includes several key documents which are summarised below:
Conservation Management Plan - This report is an analysis of the heritage value of the park, looking at how it should be conserved and enhanced.
- Conservation Management Plan (9MB PDF)
- Conservation Management Plan Appendix (2MB PDF)
Audience Development Plan (3MB PDF) - This was a substantial amount of research and consultation concerning different audiences, including people who use the park, people who don’t use the park and potential partners. The ‘stage 1’ plan presents the research findings, identifies key audiences and also sets out preliminary objectives and an outline action plan.
Access Plan The Access Plan is based on the views of people with disabilities who may be prevented from using the park due to certain barriers. The report assesses these barriers and describes the measures required to overcome them:
- Grosvenor Park Access Plan (5MB PDF)
- The Groves Access Audit (7MB PDF)
- St. Johns Ruins Access Audit (4MB PDF)
Grosvenor Park Masterplan - The Master plan sets out some of the key proposals based on feedback gathered from consultations and information from the above documents.
Grosvenor Park Conceptual Masterplan (1.4MB) - This plan describes the overall aspiration for Grosvenor Park and its surrounding environment. The masterplan is split up into 10 character zones, images and text describe the overall concept for each zone.
Training Plan (956KB PDF) - This will help to ensure that staff and volunteers are suitably trained to manage the park and identify new opportunities for training and volunteering.
Outline 10 yr Management Plan (1MB PDF) - An outline plan, which will be further developed to ensure that the park continues to be well managed and maintained with a view to achieving a Green Flag Award.
