Latest News – and Compulsory Purchase Order
Latest additions
The City Council has been informed by the Government Office for the North West that the Secretary of State and the Secretary of State for Transport have confirmed the Compulsory Purchase Order and the Road Closure Order and approved the application to close the Market Hall.
The confirmed CPO means that authorisation has been given for the compulsory acquisition of 4.6 ha of land for the purpose of carrying out the development, re-development or improvement of land within the Northgate Development Area. This enables delivery by ING of this multi-million pound scheme which will see the comprehensive revitalisation of the area, boosting the city’s retail and leisure market and breathing new life into this under-utilised area.
The confirmed RCO authorises the stopping up of lengths of roads within the Northgate area to enable the development to be carried out in accordance with the planning permission granted in June 2005.
In approving the application to close the existing market hall the Secretary of State considered this to be an integral and essential part of the re-development proposals.
These confirmations will be advertised in the press and on site and all parties with an interest in the area are to be notified.
According to the current timetable ING are hoping to start demolition early in 2007.
