Frequently Asked Questions

1) What do the new Community Safety Wardens Do?

The wardens help tackle anti-social behaviour, keep an eye on the local environment and provide a friendly, reassuring face in the community.

2) What kind of problems are they tackling?

Environmental crime like graffiti, vandalism, abandoned cars, dog-fouling, litter and other low-level nuisance crime are among the things they help tackle.

3) How do we know who they are?

The Wardens are an official uniformed service and travel around in distinctive liveried vehicles bearing the Community Safety Wardens logo. You may well have seen them around the district recently.

4) Why do we keep hearing so much about 'Crime & Grime' at the moment?

Crime and anti-social behaviour, and environmental issues like street cleansing and abandoned cars, are very high on the public's priority list. We know this because residents have told us. The new community safety wardens are just one of a raft of additional measures initiated by the council this year to help tackle these issues - often in partnership with local agencies like the police.

5) What training have the wardens had to undergo?

The wardens have undergone intensive training to help them prepare for their role in the community. Members of the team also have a wealth of experience behind them from working in a range of relevant jobs and professions in the past.

6) Will the wardens be working closely with the community?

Working with local residents - particularly the more vulnerable elements like the young, the elderly and minority groups - is a key part of the job

7) What hours do they work?

The Community Safety Wardens are available seven days per week 10am to 10pm. However there is flexibility in these hours depending on the demands on the team and the issues being dealt with.
