Website FAQs

How many people use your website?

The amount of people visiting the Chester City Council website can vary from day to day and month to month.  To help you give some idea of just how popular the site is, we now publish a monthly breakdown of visitor figures.

Why are the downloads in pdf format?

PDF (or portable document format) is essentially the standard way of providing documents in a relatively small, secure format.  By using pdf's we can ensure that they appear to you the way they were intended to look.

Where can I get Adobe Acrobat Reader?

All downloadable documents on this site are in Adobe Acrobat .PDF Format and you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open them. If you don't already have Acrobat Reader you can download it free from Adobe's web site. Get Adobe Acrobat Reader® (external link)

Why have you changed the menu structure?

We have completely redesigned the website in line with recommendations from a number of sources.  These include recommendations relating to accessibility, but also to a national standard for local authority websites.  As a result, whenever you visit other council websites, you should see a very similar menu structure in operation.  It is hoped that this will make it a lot easier to find the information you are looking for.

Why are you so concerned about accessibility?

Chester City Council aims to make this website accessible to all users and as a result follows certain standards and Government guidelines to ensure that this site can be used as effectively and easily as possible by everyone.

The site has been designed to conform to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative's 'AAA' standard. You can find details about this standard using the link Website of the World Wide Web Consortium (external link)

In addition most of the webpages are designed to be used with screenreaders, so that visually impaired users can easily access the content and navigate the site and as a result every page has a set of easy access keys.

It is our aim to continue improving the level of accessibility so that we conform to the highest W3C 'Triple A' standard in the future.

What other websites are the Council involved in?

We have developed a number of partner and microsites that complement the work the council does.  Many of these sites are branded separately but have all been developed by our in-house web team.  For a full list of current council sites, visit the microsites page.
