Victorian Handling Session
Investigate real domestic artefacts from shoe stretchers to sugar-cutters and costumes. Examine a Baby Daisy vacuum cleaner and appreciate just how far Mr. Dyson has come.
Time: 1 hour.
20 Castle Street at the Grosvenor Museum
Take your pupils round our Period Rooms, which are decorated in the style of and contain artefacts from a middle class Victorian household. There are five Victorian rooms in Castle Street: Parlour, Entrance Hall, Bedroom, School-room, and Kitchen. There is also a Victorian naturalist's study in the Natural History Gallery.
Out in the City
Explore the legacy of Victorian Chester' through the superb black and white buildings, the grand Town Hall and Museum; the world famous clock, the largest single span bridge in the world at the time and more! A city built on tourism and shopping rather than industry. Chester was not without its crowded, unhygienic dwellings, but very little evidence of this darker side remains.
The Victorian Chester Resource Pack contains not only copies of documents and photos of the period, but also provides a modern plan linked to the Pack contents.
