Fishing on the River Dee

PAAS Members

In April 2007 the City Council granted a 5 year Licence to Prince Albert Angling Society (PAAS) for the fishing rights to most of the Council owned stretches of river bank.

Adult Membership of PAAS is currently £90 per annum plus a one-off Joining Fee of £90 (there is a three year waiting list to join) which entitles anglers to fish ALL the waters managed by PAAS. PAAS do not issue day tickets.

Chester Residents

However residents of Chester (residents who live within Chester District, the area administered by Chester City Council) can buy an Adult Season Ticket, for the River Dee water only, for £20. The season ticket will run from 16th June each year until 14th March the following year. It will need to be renewed if the holder wishes to fish the water in the following season.

Anglers must be in possession of the relevant EA rod licence for the fish they intend to catch.

The Adult Season Ticket offer will continue to be available for the duration of the Council’s Licence (to 2012).

Season ticket holders can then apply for automatic membership of PAAS for the 2009/10 season and beyond without going on the 3 year waiting list.  In order to qualify for this concession, applications will need to be submitted to PAAS before 31st December 2008 for entry into the club in Spring 2009.

Junior Anglers (under 16 years old)

Applications for junior anglers to join PAAS should be made directly to PAAS. There is no waiting list for Juniors and so they can immediately become members of PAAS for £12 per annum and can therefore fish all PAAS waters including the River Dee.

Disabled Anglers

Residents of Chester who have a disability and are in receipt of a disability benefit are eligible for a free Adult Season Ticket. Disability benefits are - Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance.

Anglers who are Registered Blind, or have a Blue Badge or are in receipt of a Disability War Pension would also qualify for a free season ticket.

How to obtain an Adult Season Ticket:

Adult season tickets are dealt with initially by Chester City Council, who check residential status or where appropriate, proof of disability. Applications are  then forwarded to PAAS to support any subsequent membership request and to issue the Adult Season Tickets.

If you are applying for an Adult Season Ticket, please bring the following to Chester City Council’s Main Reception in the Forum in the city centre:

  • a passport sized photograph
  • proof that you are a Chester resident (utility bill, passport, bank statement, council tax bill, benefit letter etc)
  • proof of disability if applying for a free Adult Season Ticket (Blue Badge or letter confirming entitlement to Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance or proof that you are Registered Blind or in receipt of a Disability War Pension)
  • name, address, telephone number and date of birth
  • cheque for £20 made out to Prince Albert Angling Society

Copies of these items will be sent to the Secretary of PAAS who will then send the season ticket out to you directly with a map of the fishing areas and a list of terms and conditions.
