City Centre Orienteering race 08

On Sunday 12th October Chester held it's first ever city centre orienteering event in glorious conditions. The event was ran as a pilot and was open solely to the event organisers - Deeside Orienteering Club.

Orienteering in Chester

The event was considered a great success by all and has paved the way for Chester to next year progress the event to a possible national / international event.

Orienteering is a sport that involves individuals locating a series of controls set up on a course using their navigational/map reading skills. The aim is to identify the best routes from control to control, with the task of completing the full course of controls in the correct sequence with the quickest time. The competitors have a special device known as a dibber that they insert into each controller identifying the time that they have arrived at each control stopping anyone from completing the course in the incorrect order.

The course this year included some of Chesters magnificent features including Abbey Square, The Rows and the Groves. The start and finish were set up in the glorious backdrop of Grosvenor Park and the event was especially lucky to have brilliant sunshine.

A number of Deeside O's Elite runners were also on show during the event with numerous England internationals taking part. For the full results of the first event or for more information about orienteering please Click Here.Orienteering in Chester
