Cheshire by Night
Refreshed and ready to
party? Head for Chester for bars, clubs, and dancing into the small
hours. Revel in the cocktail service as well as the award-winning
concoctions, or step below street level into an old refectory crypt
for one or two. Over at Rufus Court, Alexander’s offers an eclectic
range of live entertainment including jazz, blues and comedy,
whilst further afield enjoy live music with the locals, in a
canalside setting at Telfords.
Or join the ‘Cheshire Set’! Step out in style into The Braz at Brasingamens, nestled in the very heart of Alderly Edge. But if candlelit concerts, classical music in the park, Shakespeare in the garden, or opera on the farm is more like your idea of a great evening out, then Cheshire is certainly the place for you too.
The Perfect Stage
It has been said that ‘to see Cheshire you must see Gawsworth Hall’ near Macclesfield. A lovely Tudor manor house set in the most picturesque village, this must surely be one of the most perfect settings for open-air theatre. Every summer the hall stages an excellent artistic programme ranging from Shakespeare to Mozart by Candlelight to Gilbert and Sullivan. Many other Cheshire locations offer outdoor theatre performances.
Opera in the Country
Situated in the heart of lovely countryside, Clonter Opera began
as a fundraising evening on a Cheshire farm and never stopped! For
years opera lovers were content to bring their own refreshments and
sit on hay bales to watch performances of exceptionally high
standards. These days Clonter has a proper theatre (but you can
still bring your own picnic!) and has grown into the “Glyndebourne
of the North”, with a reputation for nurturing rising British
operatic talent. Make a weekend of it. There are plenty of lovely
country hotels and farmhouse B&Bs nearby. The surrounding
countryside is full of lovely walks, local pubs and interesting
villages.
Try Something Different
Look out for exciting events and concerts taking place at the Pyramid & Parr Hall in Warrington, or for something very different, take in the live super-league action with theWarrington Wolves – a great day out that’s relaxed, family orientated and great fun!
